storyboard in paper
This is my storyboard, it details the different scenes I am looking to complete a little more visually than what my script says these series of pictures show off the first of the four lives my character will go though.
In here I talk about how I want to set up my shots and how they will be present in the edit with either non diegetic or diegetic sounds it is effect for both filming and editing but I like to keep my storyboards to help me remember how I want to order my clips in the timeline

Developing my character
character outline
Our main Character of "St Patrick's day" is Jessie townie, they're 5'10 and they view the world as their own personal play pen where nothing matters and you have to care about yourself to move forward in life. I decided to go with this idea of a character trait because you can see the general theme in a lot of the examples I looked at all dealt with moral complications and if becoming a better person was worth it and that is how you get out of of their looped reality.
Jessie wears smart trousers mixed with streetwear tees, the idea to make them wear such clothing because in groundhog day and Russian doll they wear smarter clothing or fancier clothing so this I thought was a good a mix of that with what I have in my Wardrobe. |

Creating my script was fun and confusing I have made a few scripts but never tried to go to far with them due to lack of actors that would be able to preform them the way I am looking i much prefer creating an idea and telling people how id like to shoot it.
So this time round I went at this with a slightly different mindset this time I was actually writing with a character I developed and curated the whole personality so I had an idea of what I wanted to get out I wanted to make sure that the audience could tell that Jessie and

CALL SHEET
Completing the call sheet was just another step in helping to make the film process more efficient way so by doing a call sheet that is only adding to this, the call sheet helps me get the crew ready for what role I need them to do and when I will need them to be around giving this to my crew is the best decision.
LOCATION SCOUTING
I plan on filming here a few times, trying to use this scene as the bridge between the different life cycles and I thought this position was good for the times I travel as its open and the lines are direct making it a great location for me
I plan on filming here for multiple scenes here so I would it is a important area for my film, I want to film here because when I was thinking about a semi quiet road with two sidewalks this was what I had in mind, depending on the day it is bright and vibrant so it would look visually pleasing.
Here is where I will be starting off I am hoping to get a different set of light to make it feel more like a party however I would also like to have some st Patricks day decoration but I may have to just make the lighting st Patricks themed as some of the accessories have gone out of store.
Here is where is where the restarts will all start, it is an open area so it allows me to have lots of room for tracking and multiple angles.
Coming back to this after filming I can see what the benefits and problems of working in these locations, I thought filming in my kitchen was fine it had both natural light and some counter lights so you're able to see everything I really wanted to get my tracking shot from me transitioning from the kitchen to the living room so because of the space I was able to do that so that is a positive but maybe isn't the best for mise en scene of a party could be a house party but i didn't have the decorations.
Looking for fonts
With presentation being a factor I want to make sure I am adding in fonts that do suit the general look and feel that I am look for I wont be writing a lot of text in post so when I do I want to make sure it has some meaning in the story and the presentation I think i would want a title in the first minute after my cold open probably in a in camera transition so i could invoke some fluidity
I am getting inspiration from the map of tiny things' poster and how it sands out contrasting against its background with the same kind of relaxed shape so I looked at two fonts I thought provoked a similar vibe
Mostly because I am targeting a similar age group so I think a similar font that attached people to that film would help in getting similar groups of people in for mine.
I really like the almost handwritten aspect to this title it fits that coming of age spirit perfectly.

testing out the tracking shot
|
I want to use the tracking shot a lot in my film so I was thinking about the best way to do this so I gathered I should do a test shot just to give an example on how i want the shot to be used.
I want the camera to follow me i want it to be smooth but also in a way where you know it is handheld because the world is not stable it is a Sharad so I would want the camera work to reflex this unstable nature. |
I worked together with both Ryan & Emilie for this shot
Production
testing out the salesman interaction
|
In this test i wanted to get the essence of a cheery sales person and i think i got that, in my film we will see the two interact three times so i wanted to get the chemistry down before hand.
I am looking at going with a mix of different shots like a close ups and over the shoulder I have been looking at how conversations are portrayed in film and these seem to be the general so i thought it would appear more natural being framed like this. |

Building an idea of the drinking pov
|
I thought i will try this out a few more times but i think generally this is how i want the shot to look on camera.
I think a pov shot is most effective in this scene because you feel more involved so it could invoke some memories which we could use to have the audience more invested as they see a drunk person be drunk. |
Life one first edit
|
I have curated a first edit of sorts and like I said in my vlog I think there are things to change, I am thinking of changing my beginning to something more dancey to follow the bouncey nature of the music in the background this is a party after all, I think if I remember my genre as a comedy drama the general tone is a bit to serious and that i am not taking advantage of some of the moments that could be used to make it an easier watch most likely Jessie dancing would change the beginning completely
|
I defiantly want to get some reshoots done to try to give this a facelift, of course easier said than done given that everyone is busy doing their own work.
In my timeline I have this scene where I am looking at a spot where i had died previously and this triggers a reaction from my character a heart attack and they fall, looking on it now I think perhaps it is a little comical in a bad way which apposes my comical in a unexpected awkwardness way that I have been curating during the film I think a way around this is to cut it and do a flash back and then to cut back when my character is already on the floor that way it by passes the fall.
At the same time falling isn't really a thing that most people that suffer heart attacks suffer from so maybe cutting the falling entirely is how I will cut this together I want this to make sense whist looking good
At the same time falling isn't really a thing that most people that suffer heart attacks suffer from so maybe cutting the falling entirely is how I will cut this together I want this to make sense whist looking good
I wanted to make a clear comparison between the two shots because
I created this flashback type look by layering my clips on top of each other this way I know they will be the same length. On the top clip I lowered the opacity to around 35 because I want the double clip to be visible to the eye, most of the effects were on the top layer, like the directional blur I added that to give this past effect kind of dirty it up in a way as in film generally flashbacks are not present with as clean of an image as the rest of a film
Here you can see the transition in colour grading from the first life to the third the progression was making the world more gloomy which could be interpreted as a visual showing of Jessies mental state as he continues to decend into a spiral of not being able to see past this specific part of the day
Using the website Adobe Colour wheel I am looking to further look at colouring in my film and how some of my framing has benefited the ease on the eye and how it has added to some maybe not so easy looks, looking at it here you can see how maybe the light in the first picture is not great for the scene makes it look more blurry but it does reflect well off of our actors hair. The whites of the shirt works well for mise en scene of the scene and matches the whit of the car behind, but perhaps would suit a different cloud formation.
I saw this scene looked quite grey and dull so I will be upping the purples

I have colour coordinated my timelines scenes all in different colours to represent the different lives, this makes it easier to know which side my clips need to go into instead of scrolling through to find the spot that i am trying to place my clip in.
|
This version is what i have without reshoots so it is not in its best state but I am putting this here so you can see how my work is updating as i am progressing.
In this version of the edit you can see how the colour correction isn't all there so some scenes do look a bit washed out, potentially because of their backgrounds I am looking to use the colour correction to tell a visual story not sure how ill do that just yet but ill mess around. |
|
This is the collimation of the dance scenes that i placed together to show the difference in presentation the first one is defiantly more snarky and I would say would probably garner an audience attention more than the second one mostly because we have seen the gist of it before so you lose that surprise factor
This would've been way more effective with some reshoots with people shocked and laughing at my odd dancing but that wasn't possible so it isn't exactly like the original that I referenced but it is okay. |
|
This is a near finished edit of my movie St Patricks Day, it features the best clips that I have to tell this story of pain and confusion, it does feel like as i am ending this beginning to understand how i want to present this I had an original plan of how i wanted to set every shot up and how i wanted to market it, I would say that marketing wise things have stayed the same I have been advertising my work on sites like instagram and tiktok like I referenced in my research
|
This greater annotates some of the audio in my timeline I think it is effective to do this as you want a lot of the audio work that you do to be seamless and like it is natural so most of the time people will not know what each individual sound is. So using word I was able to clearly state what some of the sounds used were and how they effected the storytelling of the film and if it had a diegetic or non diegetic status on the film.
